Welcome Programs Admission Summer Policies Contact us

Lil’ Folk Farm’s curriculum focuses on the educational needs of early childhood. We offer a range of experiences specifically designed to assist children socially, emotionally, and intellectually. Our curriculum is based on high interest themes that follow the seasons and holidays throughout the school year. We schedule a number of special activities and projects. You will find the details in your monthly newsletter. Parents are encouraged to share their talents, interests, and resources to enrich our existing program. We appreciate your support and involvement. Lil’ Folk Farm’s school programs are in session from September through June. We follow the Scarborough Public School Calendar closings for vacations, teacher workshop days, major holidays, and storm days. Lil’ Folk Farm school hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. An initial period of adjustment is expected and we appreciate your assistance with a cheerful send off knowing your child is in competent hands. Please be assured that if there is a problem, we will contact you. For your family’s protection, if someone other than a parent is picking your child up from school please be sure that we have received written permission.

For many children, nursery school is the first step toward independent social experiences. Lil’ Folk Farm’s nursery school meets on Tuesday and Thursdays and is typically for our three year olds. We provide a safe and nurturing environment in which children develop cognitive and social skills and are offered many opportunities to explore creatively through play. Our morning circle time offers stories, finger plays, movement and active participation in learning games. A good portion of our morning allows the children a free choice activity time. We respect the child’s choice to work individually or join a group of friends to play. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to enjoy experiences that encourage social interaction and creative thinking. Block building, dramatic play, and art experiences as well as games and puzzles are designed to stimulate young minds. The children share the same snack and juice together mid-morning. Following snack, we share music and signing time. We get outdoors at the end of each day to enjoy the spacious playgrounds or have indoor fun with parachute games and active play during inclement weather. We have an October Open House to include children and their families with a short music program. Our Nursery School year concludes with a family picnic on the last day of school.

Our pre-k meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays and is typically for our four year-olds who will be attending Kindergarten the following year. Our pre-school day begins with a circle time during which the children participate in teacher directed activities including stories, songs, finger plays, and thematic activities centered around our weekly topic. Exposure to letters and numbers are directly related to our weekly themes to make learning more meaningful. Our free choice activity time offers a variety of literacy experiences in science, math, and reading readiness, art, black building, and dramatic play. The activities are designed to give the children an opportunity to socialize and experience a variety of center areas both child and teacher directed. Closing circles review the day’s events and prepare the children for what to expect the next school day.

Specific to the pre-kindergarten program, parent conferences are held each spring to discuss formal and informal assessment results. We honor Mothers and Fathers with special events and celebrate the year’s end with a Pre-Kindergarten Graduation. VISIT US TODAY.
